Olivier Mahafaly Solonandrasana has born 21 June 1964, Nosy Be, Madagascar. He is a Madagascar politician who has been Prime Minister of Madagascar since 2016. He succeeded Jean Ravelonarivo. Until his appointment as Prime Minister he was Minister of Interior. He working with president Hery Rajaonarimampianina
His appointment was marred by confusion as his predecessor Jean Ravelonarivo, denied the presidential announcement that he had resigned from his post. Upon appointment, Mahafaly said that his government’s focus would be on fighting poverty and corruption.
“Our priorities will be the fight against poverty,” Mahafaly said at the handover ceremony at the prime minister’s office in the capital Antananarivo.
Olivier Mahafaly Solonandrasana said he would also concentrate his efforts on “the fight against corruption the fight against the looting of our natural resources”.
Madagascar has struggled to rebuild since a 2009 coup that scared off donors and foreign investors. But Donors resumed lending to Madagascar after successful elections in 2013 ended the political crisis and Rajaonarimampianina took office in January 2014.
Madagascar is an island nation in the Indian Ocean off of the coast of southeastern Africa. The country’s system of governance is a semi presidential type where there are both the president and the prime minister who is the head of government.
Since gaining independence in 1960, the Republic of Madagascar has had several prime ministers. It is important to note that while Philibert Tsiranana is considered the first prime minister of Madagascar, he served under the French colonial government from 1957 to 1959 and current prime minister is Olivier Mahafaly Solonandrasana.
Christian Louis Ntsay is a Malagasy politician who is currently Prime Minister of Madagascar. He was appointed by President Hery Rajaonarimampianina following Olivier Mahafaly Solonandrasana’s resignation due to widespread protests throughout the country in June 2018. Ntsay is considered a technocrat and has worked for the United Nations.
